A New Name for an Ancient Sea: The Salish Sea

The Salish Sea is a unique and beautiful ecosystem that is home to a wide variety of life forms. It is a single food web. This forgotten corner of the world is rich in biodiversity, and offers many incredible views and vistas. Each year, an enormous volume of water leaves the inland sea and enters the Pacific Ocean, filling it from below with Pacific Ocean water. This allows the complex interactions between the river and ocean waters to create the diverse range of life that call this place home.

From big to small, the Salish Sea has it all. From microscopic zooplankton to Sea Wolves and Grizzly Bears that roam the abundant shores. The largest residents by far are the Salish Sea Orca. People come from all over the world to view these magnificent mammals. You just might be lucky enough to see them as you enjoy the water adventures available through our fishing/kayaking tours or even as you take in the expansive sunsets each night.

The Salish Sea is a place of great importance to the people who live near it. The Coast Salish peoples have lived in and around the Salish Sea for millennia, and their cultures are deeply intertwined with the sea. With Adventica, we invite you to experience the connection these magical waters provide. Join us on one of our packages this summer, and immerse yourself in this unique and magical ecosystem.
